Pluma Lodge – Fishing Report – Aug 28th – Sept 8th
We started the week with water level at itirizama and pluma rivers in better conditions than last week. The water clarity and level were in perfect shape after a few days of heavy rain. The south wind brought a cold front (the 4th in this season) and the water temperature were low for the first days, warming up by the first days of September.
Beat 1 – Itirizama: Challenging and technical , ideal for good anglers which aim quality and not quantity of fish in sight casting situations, good walks in the jungle with great wildlife. The smaller flies worked quite well in grizzly , yellow and orange.
Beat 2 – Lower Pluma: Before noon not much activity , obtaining a pair of medium dorados but improving significantly after lunchtime , and exploding in the last hours of the fishing day , with an average of 3 catches near the 20 pounds! And using streamers no larger than 4 inches, with good weight for sinking fast, black with combinations of yellow, red and green. This last week with the visit of 3 couples Laura & Scott , Nick & Harriet and Chris & Shina, we could get the juice of this beat at mauri ‘s hand, guide house manager, he put out several very interesting pacúes, mostly above 20 pounds , and a very good number of dorados, reaching the largest 30 pounds , by Scott.
Beat 3 – Lower Secure (coruya): The river ripped pretty quiet the week for the first 2 days, deserving a little less what its usually do, but still fun! Fishing from the boat at all structures and logs on the banks, were the most productive tactic. As the warmer days passed, increasing water temperature and in consequence the fish activity. We started to wade a little in some key rapids and we had several joys. Alejandro and Philip guided and assisted by Fabian, were the ones who best fished this beat, sticking about 12 good sized dorados. But , oh yeah, the pacu hot news for the moment. At the mouth of the Pluma with Secure River, Mauri from South Africa got an incredible Pacu exceeding 25 pounds!
On the night of 03/ 09 was the birthday of our Lodge chef Nelson, who delighted us with the Argentinean style asado ( as he usually does ) ,
Party time, followed by a warm and joyful celebration with music, and the inevitable toast. By the end the cake made by the Staff girls as BirthDate gift !
